Success story: Two Multiple Entry Visit Visas granted today

We received some good news earlier today that our clients (“the Applicants) 5-year Multiple Entry Visitor visa applications had been approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). We had previously assisted the Applicants with their 2-year Multiple Entry Visitor visas in 2018. In our initial consultation with the Applicants, we explained to them the requirements for a Multiple Entry Visit visa under the Immigration Rules. Our Immigration Team prepared a well-executed application with strong legal representations in support of the Applicants application. Our immigration team specialises in all UK immigration applications and the team has a high success rate to show for their expertise.

Background to Multiple Entry Visit visas

The Applicants (husband and wife) were nationals of the United States of America. Over the years, the Applicants had regularly visited the UK for leisure. The Applicants were settled in the USA where they had their family, business, and properties. Under normal circumstances, nationals from the USA are not required to apply for a visa before travelling to the UK for a short visit. However, the Applicants had encountered problems with the UK Border Agency back in 2016 and were advised to apply for a visa before arriving to the UK to avoid problems in the future. Our immigration team prepared the applications pursuant to the requirements under the Immigration Rules and the Applicants applications were granted within a few weeks from the date of their biometric appointments.

What is a Multiple Entry Visit visa?

A Multiple Entry Visit visa allows an Applicant to enter the UK multiple times for up to 6 months per visit for the validity of the visa. Unlike the Standard Visitor visa, it does not limit the Applicant to a single entry. A Multiple Entry Visitor visa may be issued for a 2, 5 or 10 year period.

How to apply for a Multiple Entry Visit visa?

In order to apply for a Multiple Entry Visit visa Applicants must meet the requirements under Immigration Rules Appendix V: Visitor. Applicants must provide evidence that they plan to visit the UK as genuine visitors and have a valid reason for multiple entries instead of a single entry.  The main requirements for a Multiple Entry Visit visa are that:

  • Applicants must provide detailed information about their intention to visit with a valid explanation as to why they require a Multiple Entry Visit visa instead of a Standard Visit (single entry) visa;
  • Applicants must provide detailed information about their ties and connections to their home country and the UK such as family and business interests;
  • Applicants must provide evidence that they will leave the UK at the end of their visit;
  • Applicants must show that there is sufficient funds available for a return journey and any other costs relating to their visit such as accommodation; and
  • Visitors must have proof of any business or other activities they want to do in the UK, as allowed by the Immigration Rules.

All of the above will be considered by a caseworker when assessing an application. A caseworker will make a decision after reviewing the supporting documents and it is imperative the correct documents are submitted to avoid a negative decision.

How long does it take to receive a decision on Multiple Entry Visit visa application?

The Multiple Entry Visit visa application must be submitted online before travel arrangements are made. You will be required to show your visa stamp on arrival. As a part of the applications, Applicants must book an appointment at a visa application centre where they would need to submit their identity documents and supporting documents. The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel. You should receive a decision within 3 weeks. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some decisions may be delayed.

How much does a Multiple Entry Visit visa application cost?

The Home Office visa application fee for a Multiple Entry Visit visa varies from £361 to £822 and the fee you are required to pay will be based on how many years you apply for. There is no Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) for this category. It is possible to pay an additional fee to the visa application centre to have the visa application fast-tracked. We have listed below the current fees for Multiple Entry Visit visas:

  • If you wish to apply for a 2-year Multiple Entry Visit visa the fee is £361: or
  • If you wish to apply for a 5-year Multiple Entry Visit visa the fee is £655; or
  • If you wish to apply for a 10-year Multiple Entry Visit visa the fee is £822.

A Standard Visitor visa cost £95 and this will be valid for up to 6 months.
