The Importance of submitting Mandatory Supporting Documents in UK Visa Applications

In recent years, the UK’s immigration system has become notoriously hostile and a bureaucratic nightmare. The vast amount of rules and regulations governing UK Visa Applications has become daunting and confusing for many Applicants and the consequences of not submitting the mandatory supporting documents can be dire. It is extremely important that the relevant rules and requirements are understood before submitting an application to the Home Office and instructing LEXVISA to prepare and submit your visa application can be the difference in the visa being granted or refused.

Why is it important to submit the Mandatory Supporting Documents for UK Visa Applications?

The Home Office has a strict set of requirements for every UK visa application and specified documents need to be provided to evidence that the requirements have been met. If an Applicant fails to provide a mandatory supporting document, then the decision on their application may be delayed or even refused. This can have serious cost implications for Applicants as well as bring serious uncertainty and stress. Having a UK Visas and Immigration application refused, even just once, can give an Applicant an ‘adverse immigration history’, making it more difficult for any future applications to be successful. It is therefore crucial that all of the mandatory supporting documents are submitted with the initial application and are to the Home Office’s specified requirements; such as documents been dated within a certain time frame and the requirements for submitted translated documents.

A recent case of the Home Office refusing an application due to the Mandatory Supporting Documents not being submitted

The Mirror recently highlighted the case of Dr Mu-Chun Chiang who has lived in the UK for the majority of her life and applied for a Tier 2 work visa before the expiry of her leave to remain as a student in order to work in her local NHS Trust hospital. She recently found out in August that her Tier 2 visa application was refused due to her bank balance dropping below the £945 requirement within 90 days of the application being submitted. Dr Chiang challenged the decision by sending details of a separate savings account which showed she always had the specified funds available, but this was declined as it was not provided with the initial application.

A spokeswoman for the Home Office said: “We are reconsidering Ms Chiang’s application now that further evidence has been provided”.  However, not all Applicants are so lucky and most face long and costly appeal battles or even get removed from the UK.
