Securing your Tier 1 Investor extension visa in the UK

Over the years, the Tier 1 Investor visa has become an ideal visa option for high net worth individuals who wish to make a substantial financial investment in the United Kingdom. The biggest problem for Tier 1 Investor migrants is securing their Tier 1 Investor extension visa.  The initial entry clearance or switch application into Tier 1 Investor leave is relatively straightforward. There is no maintenance or English language requirement. However, the process of applying for a Tier 1 Investor extension visa is more complicated and longwinded as the Home Office expect to see that an investment has been made in an accepted format as per their Immigration Rules and internal Policy Guidance.

What are the requirements for a Tier 1 Investor extension visa application?

If you were granted your Tier 1 Investor visa leave after 6 November 2014 the following conditions must be met for you to get your Tier 1 investor visa extension. The primary requirement is that you must be able to show that you have invested not less than £2 million in the UK by way of UK Government bonds, share capital or loan capital in active and trading UK registered companies.

You should have invested the £2 million within 3 months of your entry to the UK if you were granted entry clearance as a Tier 1 Investor and there is evidence to establish your date of entry to the UK. If there was a delay in the investment due to exceptionally compelling reasons for the delay in investing you can ask the Home Office to exercise some discretion. Alternatively, where the investment was made prior to the first grant of leave as a Tier 1 Investor, no earlier than 12 months before the date of the application which led to the first grant of leave as a Tier 1 Investor Migrant, and, in each case, the level of investment has at least been maintained for the whole of the remaining period of that leave
